9 lakh apple clonal root stocks, improved cultivars from America

-Centrally Sponsored Schemes under implementation in horticulture sector

Directorate of Horticulture, Himachal Pradesh has imported approximately 9 lakh apple clonal root stocks and improved cultivars from America, under Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Development Society (HPHDP) Project for further multiplication and distribution to farmers of the State in future during the month of February & March in the current year. In addition, the Directorate is implementing various Centrally Sponsored programmes including training of farmers wherein 4900 farmers were imparted training about pruning and other methods of horticulture.Dr. Rajeev Chandra, Deputy Director of the Directorate informed PIB that the transplantation work of these plants at Government Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ) sites is in progress. He said Rs. 9 Crore were spent under Himachal Pradesh Subtropical Horticulture, Irrigation and Value Addition  (HPSHIVA) project for development of irrigation fencing and plantation in 17 identified clusters of four districts viz. Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Mandi & Una. He added that during the month of February, 5738 farmers were benefitted by distribution of 79000 winter season fruit plants and additional area of 154 hectare has brought under new plantation.
