The world’s highest village Komic in Kaza block of Himachal Pradesh has shown the way by getting 100% vaccination against Covid-19 in 60 plus age group. Those between 45 to 59 yrs of age have also received their first dose. The remote village is situated at an altitude of 4,587 meters (above 15,000 feet) in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti. The residents were “very enthusiastic” to get vaccinated, confirms Kaza Block Medical Officer, Dr Tenzin Norbu. He said total 7,050 residents of 60 plus age group from 13 Panchayats under high-altitude Kaza block have been fully vaccinated. Whereas, a total of 1,578 people between 45 to 59 years of age have received their first shot of vaccination. They include 751 men and 827 women. Dr Norbu said this segment of villagers will get their second dose as per the stipulated time. The villagers also honoured the medical team for vaccinating them. Dr Norbu said that the vaccination drive for 18 to 44 years age group would start by the end of this month. The block has a population of 3,969 persons under this age group with 2,020 female and 1,949 male. By comparing the population figures of both the categories i.e. 45 plus and 18 plus, it seems the block also has a good sex ratio of female as compared to male.
