HP Government enhances subsidy on edible oil

Subsidy on edible oil enhanced from Rs. 10 to Rs. 30 per litre for BPL families and from Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 per litre for APL families for the next four months. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said here today that the State Government was committed to safeguard the interests of the people of the State, especially providing relief to the weaker sections of the society by providing them reasonable subsidy on essential commodities. Jai Ram Thakur said that the country has witnessed a sharp increase in prices of edible oils during last 2-3 months due to import related issues. He said that these were beyond the control of the State Government. He said the State Government through the public distribution system was providing about 32 lakh litres edible oil to the consumers of the State. He said the State Government in order to provide relief to the consumers was providing subsidy of Rs. 10 per litre to BPL families and Rs. 5 per litre to APL families on the edible oil. Chief Minister said that in a bid to further provide succour to the consumers of the State, the Government had decided to enhance this subsidy from Rs. 10 to Rs. 30 per litre for BPL families and from Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 per litre for APL families for the next four months. He said that this would ensure additional financial benefits of Rs. 13 crore to the consumers of the State during these four months. Jai Ram Thakur said that this decision of the State Government would benefit over 18.71 lakh card holders of the State. He said that State Government has always been alive to the needs of the consumers and has taken various steps to benefit them.
