The Government Spokesperson today said that the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) drive is scheduled on 27th February 2022 in the ten districts (except Lahual Spiti and Kinnaur) of the State, during which the polio drops shall be given to all the children in the age group of 0-5 years. IPPI is a campaign established by the government of India to eliminate polio in India by vaccinating all children under the age of five years against the polio virus.
The Government Spokesperson informed that nearly 605379 children of the State will be administered polio drops during this campaign, irrespective of their previous immunisation status. More than 5700 booths have been planned, where the children under 5 years of age will be given two drops of polio. He added that during the mop-up rounds, more than 10700 teams shall be conducting house to house visits to ensure that no child below the age of five years is left behind. Also, 577 mobile teams will cover the population living in remote and inaccessible areas and migrant population throughout the State. He further informed that 120 transit booths would be set up at bus-stands; tourist spots etc. to cover the children in transit and for them nearly 400 teams will be deployed.
The Government Spokesperson told that due to snowfall and worst weather conditions in district Lahual & Spiti and district Kinnaur, the pulse polio campaign will not be conducted in these districts. The dates for the polio immunisation drive in these two snow bound districts of the State will be communicated later, when the weather conditions improve. He appealed to the public to ensure that their children who are less than five years of age receive polio drops on 27th February, irrespective of their previous immunisation status.
