Joint Placement Drive to provide employment platform to students: CM

The State Government was striving hard to ensure that the youth of Himachal become employment providers, instead of job seekers. This was stated by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while addressing the Joint Placement Drive programme organized by Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission at Bahra University at Waknaghat in Solan district today.
Chief Minister said that organizing the Joint Placement Drive was indeed a commendable step which would provide a platform in getting employment opportunities to the students studying in private and government educational institutions of the State. He expressed hope that more and more students would get employment according to their qualifications. He said that Universities, Colleges, ITIs and Polytechnic Institutes have been included in this joint placement drive. Through this, hundreds of youth would be selected in about 50 big companies participating in the Drive on a good package, he added.
Jai Ram Thakur said that in order to promote youth entrepreneurship, the present State Government has started the Mukhya Mantri Swavalamban Yojna. He said that the State Government has started this scheme for the youth of 18 to 45 years of age and women up to 50 years of age who want to start their own business. He said that under this scheme, loans upto Rs 1 crore was being provided under which 25 to 30 percent subsidy was given to the youth for setting up industries. He said that now the State Government has decided to provide 35 percent subsidy to women and widows. So far 3758 units have been established in Himachal under this scheme and 10,253 people have got employment at their doorsteps, he added.
Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh has made rapid strides in the field of education. He said that as many as 17 private universities have been established in the State and this has made Himachal Pradesh an ‘Education Hub’ of the country. He said that as many as 1000 employment would be provided during this one day placement drive.
Jai Ram Thakur thanked the entrepreneurs for participating in this mega event which has provided career opportunities to hundreds of youth of the State.
Chief Minister also launched the Online Information Management System ‘Disha’ of Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission on the occasion. He said that with the introduction of this system, information related to private universities and institutes, all kinds of information related to staff, courses, facilities, degrees would be available online. This will not only benefit the local people but also the students of the training institutes, he added.
Chief Minister provided ‘Job Offer Letter’ to the selected students on the occasion.
He also interacted with the candidates registered in this placement drive.
Earlier, the Chief Minister interacted with the Chancellors and Vice Chancellors of various Universities. He said that the Private Universities must evolve a mechanism so that the growing menace of drug abuse could be tackled. He said that strictness in the campus must be maintained and close vigil must be maintained on behaviour of the students. He assured the Private Universities to provide all possible assistance from the State Government for effectively taking up research work in different fields.
Industries Minister Bikram Singh said that the present State Government soon after its formation in the State ensured that the private companies may provide atleast 80 percent employment to the Himachalis youth. He said that youth of the State has also been immensely benefitted by the Mukhya Mantri Swavalamban Yojna. He said that the State has also improved its ranking in Ease of Doing Business from 16th to 7th rank. He said that Medical Devices Park has been approved for the State and was being established in Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh area.
Education Minister Govind Singh Thakur said that this placement drive would provide an opportunity to the students to get jobs of their choice in the University Campus itself. He said that about 50 companies were participating in the campus interview and selecting potential candidates for their companies.
Chairman of the Regulatory Commission, Maj. Gen. (Retired) Atul Kaushik welcomed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries present on the occasion. He said that this placement drive was held due to the motivation of the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. He said that over 1600 youths have got themselves registered for this placement drive. He said that it was a commendable endeavour that the industries have come to the campus of the university.
