The Press Council of India is a statutory quasi-judicial authority constituted by an Act
i.e. the Press Council Act, 1978, with the mandate for preserving the freedom of the press and
maintaining and improving standard of press in India.In pursuance to section 5 (1) of the said Act, composition of the Council consists of a Chairman and twenty-eight (28) other members and as per section 6 (1) of the Act, the Chairman and other members shall hold office for a period of three years. The term of present Council is to expire on 29.5.2021. Accordingly, the Council is to be reconstituted for its 14th term. The Chairman of the Council in terms of sub section 4 of section 5 of the said Act and Press Council (Procedure for Notification Associations of Persons) Rules, 2021, invite the claims from the eligible Associations of Persons all over the Country for the purpose of Notification in the Official Gazette. The claims in the sealed envelope should reach to the Chairman, Press Council of India on or before 6th April, 2021.
