In a proactive move to tackle the alarming issue of drug abuse among the youth, the Himachal Pradesh Government has initiated the implementation of the State Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (2023-24) in collaboration with St. Edward’s School. This joint endeavour, known as ‘Navchetna’, is aimed at enlightening and sensitising students about the dangers associated with substance abuse.
The inaugural session of the Drug Abuse Prevention Programme took place on March 21, 2024, at St. Edward’s School, where students from classes 9 to 12 gathered in the school hall to participate. Under the banner of ‘Navchetna’, this initiative seeks to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to resist the temptations of drug abuse and make informed decisions for a healthier lifestyle.
Dr. Nidhi Sharma, a psychiatrist at IGMC, conducted a workshop aimed at raising awareness regarding drug demand reduction. This initiative was complemented by an art competition and a Nukkad Natak (Nasha Mukti), both centered around the same theme, facilitated under the banner of Nav Chetna 1. The collaborative efforts across these varied activities served to effectively convey the message and foster community engagement in combating the challenges posed by substance abuse.
St. Edward’s School, in partnership with the Himachal Pradesh Government, is deeply committed to fostering a drug-free environment within its premises and the broader community. Through various initiatives, including the Drug Abuse Programme, the school aims to empower its students to become responsible individuals capable of making positive choices.
