23.78 lakh persons screened for NCDs in Himachal

The Government Spokesperson said that the burden of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) like hypertension, diabetes and the associated risk factors are increasing in the State. In order to address this problem special surveillance activity and clinical services are going on in the State. He further added that the key mandate of this scheme is risk reduction, health promotion, screening and management of NCDs. He further said that special focus is being given to the 18-30 years age group who are more vulnerable to the common risk factors like tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity.
The Government Spokesperson informed that the GOI has also launched a similar NCD screening program where the 30+ population is screened for Diabetes, Hypertension and three common cancers only. However in the State of Himachal Pradesh under the integrated surveillance of 10 common NCDs including cancers, Diabetes, Hypertension, Deafness, Blindness, COPD, epilepsy, other CVDs, Mental illness, CKDs & 15 risk factors and extension of the NCDs screening for 18-30 years aged population is being done. Under this scheme the ASHAs/ ANMs/Health workers screen the patients and do the risk assessment and awareness generation in the community.
The Government Spokesperson added that the screened populations who are found to have risk factors or NCDs are referred to the medical officer for further treatment and management. He said that the entire surveillance is ensured through the E-Health card software in ANMOL tablets /mobile phones at ANM level.
The Government Spokesperson said that the e-health card surveillance is one of the biggest surveillance in the State wherein we aim to enroll all 43 Lakh (+18) population till 2022. He said that till now a total of 23.78 lakh persons have been screened and their risk profile has been captured in the software. Out of these 8.25 lakh people were found to have NCDs and were checked by the Health workers and CHOs. Out of these about 50000 persons have started their treatment .
